This is true. The issue we should be vigilant about though is that in 2008, the Fed accepted all kinds of assets as collateral. There’s a difference between keeping banks liquid and saving a bank that is failing because it is holding toxic assets. The Fed should only accept high quality assets (like Treasuries) as collateral.
