Let’s dig into this idea that the film suggests, that any of us could become a gross murdering monster, filled with rage if our circumstances were different.

Personally I think this was the biggest takeaway from the film. The viewer has a bit of a ‘moral crisis’ at the end of the film when they realize the protagonist Adelaide was originally a shadow. Up until that point, we know that the shadows are biologically human, but we still view them as somehow ‘other’. The revelation at the end of the film flips the moral narrative on us and makes us question our support of Adelaide.
